How do I dispose of needles?
Needles can be placed in a #2 HDPE plastic container (i.e. laundry detergent jug, milk jug, or protein bar container) and duct-taped shut. Please write “Hazardous Waste” on the container and dispose with your regular trash.

Where do I dispose of/recycle large appliances (e.g. refrigerator, washer/dryer, AC unit)?
We accept appliances for free under the Scrap Metal Recycling Program at the Campbell County Road Department (1175 Racetrack Road, Alexandria), Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. You can also take them to River Metals Recycling (1220 Licking Pike, Newport). Currently, RMR is accepting refrigerant-containing units with no additional fee.

How do I safely get rid of household hazardous waste (e.g. cleaners, fuels, tanks/cylinders, aerosols)?
You can bring them to our free one-day Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event (more information at www.nkyhhw.org) or take it directly to a local HHW vendor. How do I get rid of paint?
Latex, acrylic, or water-based paint is not a hazardous material. You can dry out latex paint with paint hardener, concrete mix, or cat litter. Once dry, it can go in the regular trash (leave lid off).

Oil-based paint, including stains and primers, is hazardous and must be disposed of properly. It can be taken to the HHW Collection Event (more information at www.nkyhhw.org) or to a local vendor.
